Hannah Skidmore

I’m Ms. Hannah Skidmore, and I am absolutely thrilled to introduce myself as a new member of your outstanding English department. Originally hailing from Nottingham, England, my journey in education began at the University of Birmingham, where I achieved a First Class degree in English Literature and English Language. During my time at university, I was deeply involved in campus life, serving as the President of the English Language Society and as a student ambassador.

About Me

Outside of school, I’ve had the pleasure of adopting two wonderful cats and a desert dog during my time here in Dubai. My faithful companion, Alfie, and I frequently explore the great outdoors, especially during the cooler months when we can be found hiking and immersing ourselves in the UAE’s breathtaking landscapes. This natural environment serves as an incredible source of inspiration for me, and I continuously integrate this creativity into my teaching practices.

As you might have guessed, I am an avid reader and have a deep appreciation for literature. I cherish moments when students approach me with book suggestions or share their favorite literary genres. In my previous school, my students introduced me to several talented dystopian authors, and I now find myself particularly drawn to this genre.

I am incredibly excited to embark on this new journey at Safa Community School. I look forward to immersing myself in your unique school culture, collaborating with colleagues, and, most importantly, having the privilege of getting to know and work with each of you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or would like to connect before my arrival.

My Experience

Following my university experience, I ventured into the world of education and completed my Post-Graduate Diploma in Leadership in Learning while working at an all-boys school in the vibrant city of Birmingham. It was during this time that I developed a profound passion for igniting a love for literature in my students. I achieved this by establishing book clubs and collaborating closely with the library to ensure that our students had access to a wide range of engaging texts. My educational journey then led me to Bolivia, where I had the opportunity to teach English. This experience opened my eyes to the rich tapestry of multiculturalism in international education. It was this appreciation for diversity that ultimately led me to Dubai, where I have been working as an Assistant Headteacher, with a strong focus on teaching and learning. In this role, I’ve had the privilege of merging my passion for pedagogy with research-informed teaching, particularly when instructing students in Years 10-12. I find immense joy in teaching linguistics and exploring the profound impact of language on our world, as well as how future generations shape language’s evolution.
