I am entering into my 9th year as a teacher of Food Preparation and Nutrition and still hold the same passion and enthusiasm for my job as the years have progressed. It is my mission to empower young people to lead healthy lifestyles and develop essential life skills. I am passionate about my subject and profession, and aim to foster independent and resilient learners through my teaching. I take great satisfaction in seeing students share their love and passion for nutrition and cooking, and love inspiring them to pursue this further, by creating as many exciting opportunities for them here in Safa Community School.

About Me

I am originally from Dundalk, a town on the East Coast of Ireland, and moved to Dubai 5 years ago. I moved to develop and progress as a teacher, but also in pursuit of a climate with more sun and less rainy days! I absolutely love living in Dubai and also enjoy travelling and exploring new countries during the holidays. My two main hobbies are fitness and food. I enjoy going to the gym and am also heavily involved in my GAA club, Kerry Middle East GAA, as well as being Ladies Officer on the Middle East County Board. The culinary scene in Dubai is second to none, so I am always eager to try out new restaurants for some inspiration for classroom recipes. I am a competitive person by nature, and have enjoyed bringing that side of my personality to life in Safa this year, through the various competitions I have organised such as the Inter-schools cookery competition and Masterchef.

My Experience

I obtained a First Class Honours Bachelor of Education in Home Economics having studied for 4 years in the National University of Ireland, Galway. I taught in Ireland for 3 years before making the move to the UAE. I am entering into my third year as Head of Food and Nutrition here at Safa CommunitySchool, and am very proud of the growth and progress the department has made during my time here so far. I am excited to bring my experience from my various schools to help grow and develop the curriculum for the students at Safa Community School. I have experience of working as an examiner as well as teacher, giving me valuable insights into exam preparation. I have enjoyed developing and expanding the BTEC Hospitality course this year, and look forward to this pathway continuing to grow here in the department.
