Hello! My name is Miss Blackburn and I’m from Manchester (North West UK). I have been teaching in the UK for 8 years and I’m looking forward to bring my skills and knowledge to Safa! to Safa
I will be relocating to Dubai in August 2024 and I can’t wait to start the next adventure within my teaching career. Outside of school life, I love to go to the gym and keep active. It’s something that has always been very important to me as it keeps me both physically and mentally fit. I am also very big on travelling! I love to experience new cultures and create everlasting memories. My favourite quote is one from To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee; “Time spent indoors is time wasted.” I have loved this quote ever since being a secondary student myself and it’s how I’ve always tried to live my life. Life is most definitely for living to the fullest and I can’t wait to do this in Dubai.
English has always been a subject I have thoroughly enjoyed. The idea that it’s “just about reading” is a common misconception. The power of the English language is fascinating, it allows you to form different perspectives, supports excellent oracy and allows for creativity to develop through a variety of different channels. I studied English Language at Coventry University in 2010. From there I acquired a job as a teaching assistant in a local secondary school. It was this job that ignited my love for teaching as I saw first hand the positive impact that teaching and learning can have on young people. Prior to starting my PGCE, I travelled to Thailand and Vietnam to teach English as a secondary language through my TEFL qualification. This was an experience I thoroughly enjoyed! I qualified with a PGCE in English at Edge Hill University in 2015 and have taught in schools in Manchester ever since. I have had various roles within UK secondary schools from English Teacher, Head Of Year, Assistant Principal and Vice Principal for Behaviour and Attitudes.
