Alexandra Jane Hay

Deputy Head of Year 8 | Food & Nutrition Teacher

This is my second year at Safa Community school and will be my 4th year as a teacher of Food Preparation and Nutrition. I absolutely love my job and I look forward to each day and what it will bring. I have wanted to be a Food Technology teacher since I was 14 years old which shows how passionate I am about the subject. I love watching students share their genuine passion for nutrition and cooking. It’s incredibly rewarding to inspire them to dive deeper into these interests at Safa Community School.

About Me

I am originally from Hawick, a little town in Scotland and I moved to Dubai 2 years ago. I moved to Dubai to follow my dreams of teaching abroad and develop as a teacher. I spend my time away from school going to Circuit factory and playing Gaelic Football. I also enjoy socialising with my friends and exploring all the restaurants and hot spots Dubai has to offer. I love to travel to different countries in my time off, however I do love getting back on that flight back to ‘Bonnie’ Scotland to enjoy some time with my friends, family and most importantly my two dogs.

My Experience

I have been a teacher for three years, with two years of teaching experience in Dubai. During my teaching career, I have taught a range of curriculums, including Scottish and British. I studied nutrition at university and pursued a PGDE in Home Economics in the 21st century to enhance my teaching skills. I am a keen baker and have even owned my own cake business in the UK. Additionally, I attended extra college classes in baking and cake decorating to improve my craft. I have just completed my first year in Pastoral as ‘Deputy Head of Year 9’. I absolutely love working in pastoral and getting to know the students on a personal level and supporting them through school life as much as I can. I am really looking forward to working in pastoral again this year.
